Black Grouper
Hoping to tangle with a Black Grouper in the Florida Keys? Marathon Shores offers access to some prime grouper habitat. These fish prefer structure, so concentrate your efforts around reefs, wrecks, and rocky bottom in the deeper waters offshore. Black Grouper fishing is best during the cooler months, particularly fall and early winter, when they move closer to shore. Live bait, such as pinfish or grunts, are highly effective, but large jigs can also produce. A crucial local tip is to use heavy tackle. These fish are strong and will head straight for cover once hooked, so you need the power to pull them out. The Marathon area has several well-maintained boat ramps, like the one at Sombrero Beach, offering easy access to the Gulf and Atlantic sides. Remember to check the regulations for size and bag limits before heading out. The Black Grouper here are known for their size and fighting ability, offering a rewarding challenge for experienced anglers.
