Black Sea Bass

Although Pennsylvania isn't the first place that comes to mind for Black Sea Bass, these fish can be found in the deeper, cooler sections of the Delaware River near Port Clinton, particularly during the summer months. They tend to congregate around structure, seeking shelter and ambush points. Look for submerged pilings, artificial reefs (if any exist in the area), or drop-offs on your fish finder. Bottom fishing with baited hooks is the most common and effective method. Squid, clams, and small crabs are all excellent choices. A local's trick is to use a three-way swivel rig with a short dropper line to your weight, minimizing the risk of snagging on the bottom. Pay close attention to tidal currents, as Black Sea Bass often prefer to feed during slack tide. Be mindful of regulations regarding size and bag limits, which can vary seasonally. Also, be aware that the Black Sea Bass population may be influenced by water quality in the Delaware River, so practice catch and release when appropriate to help maintain a healthy fishery.
