Bluegill

Eagle Lake, Florida, offers some fantastic bluegill action, especially if you key in on the seasonal changes in forage. These panfish are abundant throughout the lake, but their location shifts dramatically with the seasons. During the spring spawning season, focus your efforts in the shallows around Kissimmee grass and lily pads. A simple bobber and worm rig is tough to beat this time of year. As the water warms, bluegill move deeper, seeking cooler temperatures and more oxygen. Try drifting crickets or red wigglers in deeper channels and near submerged structure. Eagle Lake's relatively clear water means bluegill can be a bit skittish, so use light line and natural presentations. A local tip: the public boat ramp on the south end of the lake provides good access. Be mindful of the afternoon thunderstorms that are common in Florida, especially during the summer.
