Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target these feisty fish, as they move into the shallows to spawn. Look for bedding areas in canals and around lily pads. Live crickets and grass shrimp are irresistible, but small jigs and poppers also work well. Pay attention to water clarity; bluegill can be line-shy in clear water, so use light tackle. A great access point is the Lake Alfred Park, offering easy access to prime bluegill habitat. Remember to adjust your depth and location based on water temperature, as bluegill tend to move deeper during the hottest parts of the day. The canals connecting the lakes are often productive.
