Spring and early summer are generally considered the best times, when the bluegill move into the shallows to spawn. Look for bedding areas in calm, protected coves. A simple worm and bobber rig is often all you need, but small jigs and crickets can also be effective. Be aware that some ponds may be on private property, so always obtain permission before fishing. The bluegill here tend to run a bit smaller than in larger reservoirs, but what they lack in size, they make up for in numbers. Focus your efforts around submerged vegetation and woody structure, as these areas hold the most fish.
