If you're looking for some classic bluegill action in Oklahoma, Weleetka offers several smaller lakes and ponds that are teeming with these panfish. Unlike larger reservoirs, these smaller bodies of water warm up quickly in the spring, making for excellent spawning activity and aggressive feeding. April through June is prime time, but you can still find good fishing throughout the summer, especially early in the morning or late in the evening. A simple bobber and worm rig is hard to beat, but don't overlook small jigs or poppers for some exciting topwater action. Many of these spots are accessible from the bank, but a small boat or kayak can open up even more opportunities. Be aware that some ponds are privately owned, so always check for signage and obtain permission where necessary.
