If you're looking for some classic South Carolina bluegill action, Sycamore offers a few sweet spots. The Edisto River, nearby ponds, and smaller lakes around Sycamore hold decent populations. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the bluegill move into shallower waters to spawn. Look for bedding areas in protected coves with sandy bottoms. A simple cane pole with a bobber and worm works wonders here, but small jigs and crickets under a float can also be effective. Local tip: try the ponds and slow-moving sections of the Edisto River near the Highway 3 bridge; access is relatively easy from the roadside. Bluegill in this area tend to be on the smaller side, but the sheer numbers and relaxed atmosphere make for a fun day of fishing, especially for families.
