Bluegill

If you're heading to Paris, Tennessee, for bluegill, you're in for a treat. Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley, both easily accessible from Paris, offer excellent bluegill fishing. Spring is prime time, as the fish move into the shallows to spawn. Look for them around submerged vegetation and fallen timber in the bays and coves. As the water warms into summer, they'll retreat to deeper water near structure. A simple bobber and worm rig is hard to beat, but don't overlook crickets or small jigs tipped with waxworms. Water clarity can vary, so adjust your presentation accordingly. A local tip: The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area offers numerous access points and boat ramps for both lakes, but be sure to check lake levels and ramp conditions before you go. The bluegill in these waters are known for their impressive size, so be prepared for some hefty catches!
