Brown Trout

While Illinois isn't typically known for its brown trout, angling opportunities do exist, particularly in the northern part of the state. For brown trout near Arlington, focus your efforts on the streams and rivers that are stocked, or those that receive spillover from stocked locations. The spring and fall seasons are prime times to target these fish, as they become more active with the cooler water temperatures. Look for areas with good cover like fallen logs, undercut banks, and deeper pools. A key to success here is light tackle and natural presentations. Small spinners, crankbaits mimicking small baitfish, or even drifting nymphs can be effective. Access can sometimes be challenging, so be prepared to do some walking along the stream banks.
