Brown Trout

While Buckingham, Illinois, isn't exactly a brown trout hotspot, determined anglers might find some stocked trout in select locations. Check with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) for the latest stocking information and locations, as they occasionally stock brown trout in certain streams or ponds in the region. Spring and fall are usually the best times to target these stocked fish, as water temperatures are more favorable. Small spinners, spoons, or even live worms can be effective baits. Fly fishing with nymphs or streamers can also produce results. Keep in mind that these are likely to be stocked fish, so don't expect to find a thriving wild population.
