Brown Trout

While Evergreen Park isn't exactly known as a trout mecca, determined anglers can find opportunities for brown trout within a reasonable drive. A good strategy is to look at the stocking reports from the IDNR website. While the closest stocked locations may be a bit of a drive, the chance to catch a brown trout makes the trip worthwhile. Spring and fall are the best times to target stocked trout, as water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Small spinners, spoons, and live bait like worms or mealworms are effective presentations. Consider fishing early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid crowds and increase your chances of success. Remember to check the specific regulations for each body of water, as there may be size limits or gear restrictions. Access to these streams can sometimes be limited; look for public access points along roadways or forest preserves.
