Brown Trout

While Danville, Indiana isn't exactly known as a brown trout hotspot, determined anglers can find some limited opportunities. The key is to target the deeper, cooler sections of the local waterways like White Lick Creek, especially after periods of heavy rain when the water is higher and provides more cover. Brown trout aren't native, so any you find will likely be the result of sporadic stocking efforts or holdovers from previous years. Spring and fall, when water temperatures are moderate, are the most promising times to try. Access can be tricky; look for public access points along county roads that cross the creek. Be prepared to wade and cover a lot of water. Don't expect trophy-sized fish; any brown trout caught here are likely to be on the smaller side, but the challenge of finding them in an unexpected location makes it a rewarding pursuit.
