Brown Trout

While not a renowned trout destination, Munster, Indiana, does offer a limited opportunity to target brown trout thanks to stocking programs in some local waterways. The Little Calumet River, though heavily urbanized, is occasionally stocked with brown trout. Check with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for stocking schedules, as this will heavily influence your success. Spring and fall are the most promising times to fish for these stocked trout. Use small spinners, spoons, or live bait like worms or waxworms. Focus on areas with deeper pools and riffles. Be aware that the Little Calumet River can be heavily impacted by runoff, so avoid fishing after heavy rains. The trout here are typically relatively small, but catching one in an urban setting can still be a fun and unique experience.
