Brown Trout

Spring and fall are the best times to target brown trout in this region, as water temperatures are cooler and the fish are more active. Fly fishing is a popular method, but small spinners and spoons can also be effective. Focus on areas with deep pools, undercut banks, and rocky riffles. Be sure to check the Iowa DNR's trout stocking report to find the most recently stocked streams. The brown trout in these streams typically range from 8-14 inches, but larger specimens are possible. A valid Iowa fishing license and trout stamp are required. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the quality of the fishery.
