While not as widely known as some other areas, Woodstown, New Jersey, and the surrounding Salem County offer surprisingly good brown trout fishing in its small streams and rivers. These waterways, though often overlooked, can hold some beautiful wild and stocked browns. The best time to target them is during the spring and fall, when water temperatures are cooler and trout are more active. Early morning and late evening are particularly productive. Focus on areas with deep pools, undercut banks, and riffles. Fly fishing with nymphs or small streamers is a popular technique, but spinning gear with small spinners or spoons can also be effective. Access to some of these streams can be tricky, often requiring wading or hiking through wooded areas. Check local regulations regarding catch-and-release policies, as some sections may have specific restrictions. Remember that these are relatively small waters, so stealth and a delicate presentation are key to success. The trout here may not be huge, but the experience of fishing these secluded streams is well worth the effort.
