Carp

If you're looking for a carp fishing adventure in northeast Georgia, Avalon offers some surprisingly good opportunities. The Broad River, which runs near Avalon, holds a healthy population of carp, often overlooked by anglers targeting other species. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the carp move into shallower areas to spawn. Look for them in backwaters and near submerged vegetation. A simple hair rig with corn or boilies is a reliable approach. Public access to the Broad River can be found at several bridge crossings and smaller access points along the river. Be mindful of water levels, as the Broad can fluctuate rapidly after heavy rains. The carp here aren't heavily pressured, so even moderately sized fish can put up a good fight.
