Birmingham offers some excellent Catfish opportunities, especially in the Coosa River system. Lakes like Lay and Mitchell are known for producing quality channel and blue catfish. The warmer months are ideal, with the peak bite often occurring at night. Focus on areas with deep water, current, and structure such as submerged timber or rock piles. Stinkbaits, cut bait, and live bait are all effective choices. A useful tip is to scout for areas with current breaks or eddies, as catfish often congregate there to ambush prey. Consider using a fish finder to locate submerged channels and drop-offs. Bank fishing access is available at various points along the Coosa River, but a boat will significantly expand your options. Be mindful of Alabama's catfish regulations regarding size and creel limits. Remember to use appropriate tackle, as these fish can get quite large!
