Channel Catfish

For channel catfish enthusiasts, Lula, Georgia, offers a variety of options, from smaller creeks to larger river systems. The Chattahoochee River and its tributaries are prime locations, as are some of the smaller, privately owned ponds (with permission, of course). Channel cats are opportunistic feeders, making them relatively easy to target. Spring and summer are the most productive times, particularly after a rain. Use a variety of baits, including chicken livers, nightcrawlers, stinkbaits, or cut bait. Focus on areas with current, such as bends in the river or near submerged structure. A local tip: Many local anglers have success fishing at night, using blacklights to attract insects and, in turn, catfish.
