Channel Catfish

If you're chasing channel cats in the Coney Island, Missouri area, you're in for a treat. This region, nestled near the Missouri River and its tributaries, offers excellent catfish habitat. Look to the deeper holes and channels of the river itself, or explore the slower-moving creeks and backwaters that feed into it. These areas often hold good numbers of catfish, particularly after a rain when the water is slightly muddied. The best time to target them is from late spring through early fall, with the warmer months being prime. Night fishing can be particularly productive. A local tip: many anglers have success using cut bait or prepared stink baits fished on the bottom with a Carolina rig. Access to the river can be found at various public boat ramps and access points along Highway 159. Be aware of changing river conditions, especially during periods of heavy rainfall, as water levels can rise quickly.
