If you're after Channel Catfish near New Brunswick, the Raritan River is your primary target. This waterway holds a healthy population of catfish, offering excellent fishing opportunities, especially during the warmer months. Summer nights are particularly productive, with catfish actively feeding in the dark. The deeper holes and areas near the river's confluence with tributaries are prime spots. For bank access, try fishing near bridges or along the D&R Canal State Park. A word of advice: catfish in the Raritan are not particularly picky and will take a variety of baits. Prepared baits, cut bait, and live worms are all effective. Be prepared for some larger specimens; the Raritan can produce some surprisingly big catfish. Also, be mindful of the regulations regarding bait restrictions and size limits. Be sure to use heavier tackle as some areas have heavy current and snags are common.
