Channel Catfish

If you're looking for some good ol' Texas channel catfishing, Dodd City offers some surprisingly productive spots. While not a major destination, the smaller lakes and ponds dotting the landscape around Dodd City can hold some hefty cats. The best time to target them is generally from late spring through early fall, especially after a good rain when they're actively feeding. Night fishing can also be very productive during the hotter months. A simple slip-sinker rig with stink bait, cut bait, or even nightcrawlers is usually all you need. Many of the ponds are on private land, so always ask for permission before fishing. A good starting point is exploring public access areas around Bois d'Arc Lake; though it's a bit of a drive, it's known to hold some real lunkers. Be sure to check local regulations, as size and bag limits may apply.
