Channel Catfish

Channel catfish are a reliable target for anglers in the Katy, Texas area. The Brazos River, which flows not far from Katy, is a great starting point. Look for deeper holes, submerged logs, and undercut banks, as these provide excellent habitat for channel cats. Summer and fall are traditionally the best times to target them, especially after a good rain when the river is up slightly. Stink baits, cut bait, and nightcrawlers are all effective baits. A practical tip is to fish near bridges or other structures that create current breaks. These areas often concentrate catfish. While bank access is available in some areas along the Brazos, a boat or kayak will significantly expand your fishing options. Be aware of strong currents, especially after heavy rainfall. The channel catfish in this section of the Brazos can range from a couple of pounds to well over ten, offering a rewarding fishing experience.
