Channel Catfish

Reno, Texas, offers some excellent channel catfish opportunities, primarily in the Red River and its associated creeks and oxbows. What sets this area apart is the relatively undeveloped nature of the riverbank in many spots, providing good access for bank fishing. The best time to target channel cats here is from late spring through early fall. As the water warms, they become more active, especially after sunset. Night fishing with stink baits, cut bait, or even live shad can be incredibly productive. For bank access, try areas near the Highway 271 bridge or explore some of the county roads that run parallel to the river. Be aware of private property and always obtain permission before fishing on private land. The catfish in this part of the Red River tend to be healthy and robust, likely due to the abundant forage.
