Channel Catfish

Channel catfish provide excellent fishing opportunities in the freshwater bodies of Rocky Mound, Texas. While the lakes and ponds may be smaller, they hold a surprisingly healthy population of these whiskered predators. The best time to target channel catfish is during the warmer months, particularly late spring through early fall. They become more active as the water temperature rises. Try fishing with cut bait, stink bait, or nightcrawlers on a Carolina rig near the bottom. A helpful tip is to focus your efforts around areas with submerged structure, such as fallen trees or rock piles. Many of the ponds also have dams, which can be productive spots. The channel catfish in Rocky Mound are known for being scrappy fighters. Be prepared for a good battle, especially if you hook into a larger fish. Night fishing can be particularly effective.
