Channel Catfish

Channel catfish are a popular target around Westover Hills, Texas, and for good reason – they're plentiful and relatively easy to catch. Lake Worth is again a primary location. Focus on areas with submerged structure like fallen trees, riprap around bridges, and rocky outcroppings. The warmer months, from late spring through summer, are ideal for channel catfishing. They're actively feeding and spawning during this period. Try fishing near the dam or along the river channel. A great access point is the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge – it provides shoreline access to the lake. For bait, you can't go wrong with the classics: nightcrawlers, chicken liver, or commercial stink baits. The channel catfish in Lake Worth are generally a good size, with plenty of opportunities to catch fish in the 1-3 pound range, and the occasional larger specimen.
