Crappie

If you're looking for some slab-sized crappie in northern Alabama, Geraldine offers some decent freshwater opportunities. The surrounding area, close to Lake Guntersville, provides a good starting point. While Guntersville itself is renowned, don't overlook the smaller lakes and rivers closer to Geraldine. Spring is prime time, as the crappie move into shallower waters to spawn. Target submerged timber, creek channels, and weed beds with jigs or minnows under a float. A local tip: Many of the smaller lakes have limited public access, so be sure to scout out access points beforehand. Respect private property and look for established boat ramps or parking areas. The crappie here tend to be relatively plentiful, but can be pressured; try fishing during the week to avoid crowds. Also, pay attention to water clarity – a slight stain often produces better results than crystal-clear water.
