The nearby impoundments of the Chattahoochee River, particularly West Point Lake, are prime crappie habitat. These lakes are known for their standing timber and submerged structure, which provide excellent cover for crappie. Spring is undoubtedly the peak season, as the crappie move shallow to spawn. Focus your efforts in the backs of creeks and coves where the water warms up first. A simple jig and minnow combo fished under a float is a local favorite. For those with boats, the ramps at Hardley Creek and McGee Bridge offer good access to West Point Lake. Don't overlook the smaller, less pressured ponds and lakes around Woodland; a little scouting can reveal some hidden gems. Be sure to check creel and size limits before heading out, as regulations can vary between different bodies of water. The crappie in this region tend to be good-sized, so you've got a solid chance at landing some slabs.
