Crappie

While perhaps not the first species that comes to mind when you think of Northern California coastal fishing, crappie can be found in some of the slower-moving waters near Little River. Focus your efforts on the impoundments and sloughs connected to the larger rivers in the area, particularly those with submerged structure like brush piles or fallen trees. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target crappie, as they move into shallower water to spawn. Small jigs and minnows suspended under a bobber are highly effective. A key local tip: Look for areas where the water is slightly stained, as crappie tend to prefer these conditions. Also, be aware that access to some of these areas may be limited, so do your research beforehand. The crappie around Little River aren't known for their size, but a dedicated angler can still put together a respectable stringer.
