Crappie

Crappie fishing near Loma Linda requires a bit of a drive, but several options exist within a reasonable distance. Lake Perris, while known more for bass, also holds a decent population of crappie. Focus your efforts on submerged structure like brush piles and submerged trees, especially near the dam and in coves. Spring is the prime time, as the crappie move shallow to spawn. Small jigs tipped with live minnows are deadly. Try fishing under a bobber to keep your bait at the desired depth. Lake Perris has good boat access, and rentals are often available. Keep an eye on water levels, as fluctuating levels can impact crappie location. The crappie in Lake Perris aren't generally huge, but you can find some quality fish mixed in with the smaller ones. Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to target these panfish.
