Crappie

Crappie fishing near Andale, Kansas, is best pursued at Cheney Reservoir. While it's a bit of a drive, the lake offers a decent crappie population. Spring is the peak season, as crappie move into shallow areas to spawn. Look for them around brush piles, submerged timber, and docks in coves and protected areas. Small jigs and minnows are the go-to baits. A slip bobber rig can be very effective for presenting your bait at the right depth. As the water warms in the summer, crappie tend to move deeper, so you'll need to adjust your tactics accordingly. Fall can also be a good time to target crappie as they feed up for the winter. The Wichita City Lake is closer to Andale, but generally offers smaller crappie in lower numbers. Remember to check the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks regulations for size and creel limits.
