Crappie

Eastborough, Kansas offers some surprisingly good crappie fishing, particularly in the spring and fall. Focus your efforts on the numerous small lakes and ponds scattered throughout the area. These smaller bodies of water tend to warm up faster in the spring, drawing crappie in to spawn earlier than larger reservoirs. Look for submerged timber, brush piles, and weed edges – crappie love cover. A simple jig and bobber rig or a small minnow under a slip float are consistently effective. Local anglers often have success fishing around the Eastborough City Lake, accessible from the south side of town. Be aware that many of these smaller lakes are privately owned, so always obtain permission before fishing. The crappie here tend to run on the smaller side, but what they lack in size, they make up for in numbers, providing plenty of action.
