Crappie

If you're after crappie near Dellwood, Minnesota, you're in luck. The numerous lakes in Washington County, including White Bear Lake and smaller, less-pressured bodies of water, offer excellent crappie fishing. Spring is prime time, as crappies move into shallow bays and channels to spawn. Look for them around docks, brush piles, and weed edges in 4-8 feet of water. A slip bobber with a small jig tipped with a minnow or plastic crappie tube is a classic and effective presentation. As the water warms in the summer, crappies tend to move deeper, often suspending near submerged structure. Electronics can be invaluable for locating these schools.
