Crappie

Crappie fishing in the Forest Lake area can be excellent, especially if you know where to look. While Forest Lake itself holds crappies, many smaller, connected lakes and bays often hold larger concentrations. Focus your efforts around submerged timber, weed beds, and docks. Spring is a fantastic time to target crappies as they move into shallow, protected areas to spawn. Small jigs tipped with minnows or plastic trailers are highly effective. As the water warms, crappies tend to move deeper, often suspending near structure. Try using a slip bobber rig to present your bait at the correct depth. A local tip is to explore the channels and backwaters connecting the various lakes – these areas can hold large schools of crappies that are often overlooked. Public access is readily available on Forest Lake, and many of the smaller lakes also have access points. Be sure to check the local regulations regarding size and creel limits, as they can vary from lake to lake. With a little persistence, you can find some slab crappies in the Forest Lake area.
