Minnetonka Beach offers fantastic crappie fishing, primarily within the expansive waters of Lake Minnetonka itself. What makes this lake special is its complex structure – numerous bays, islands, and submerged vegetation create diverse habitats that crappies thrive in. Spring is prime time, as crappies move into the shallows to spawn. Target areas near docks, bulrushes, and any submerged wood in water depths of 6-10 feet. A small jig tipped with a minnow or waxworm under a bobber is deadly. As the water warms in summer, crappies will move deeper, often suspending near submerged weedlines or structure in the main lake basins. Try trolling small crankbaits or using your electronics to locate schools. A local tip: Minnetonka can get busy, especially on weekends. Consider fishing during the week or early mornings to avoid the crowds. Also, be mindful of the lake's size – wind can pick up quickly, so check the forecast before heading out.
