Crappie

Crappie enthusiasts visiting Cornelius, NC, will find Lake Norman to be a crappie haven. The lake's many submerged brush piles, docks, and bridge pilings provide excellent habitat. Spring and fall are peak seasons, as crappie move into shallower waters to spawn and feed. Minnows and jigs are standard fare, but don't be afraid to experiment with different colors and presentations. A local tactic: target the numerous boat docks along the lake's shoreline, especially those with lights at night. These lights attract baitfish, which in turn attract crappie. Be mindful of water clarity; stained water often requires brighter colored jigs. Public access is readily available at several boat ramps and fishing piers, making it easy to get on the water and start fishing for these tasty panfish.
