Crappie fishing near Goodlettsville centers around Old Hickory Lake, a reservoir on the Cumberland River. This lake provides excellent habitat for both black and white crappie, with plenty of submerged timber and brush piles that attract these tasty panfish. Spring is the peak season, as crappie move into shallow water to spawn. Look for them in coves and around docks in the backs of creeks. Minnows and small jigs are effective baits. In the fall, crappie often suspend around deeper structure. Consider using your electronics to locate schools of fish. A local favorite access point is the Shutes Branch Recreation Area, which offers boat ramps and good bank fishing opportunities. Be mindful of the wind, as Old Hickory can get choppy quickly. The crappie population here is generally healthy, with a good number of keeper-sized fish available. Don't be afraid to experiment with different depths and presentations to find what the fish are biting on each day.
