If you're after a tasty Flounder, Briny Breezes offers some excellent opportunities. These flatfish are ambush predators, lying in wait on the bottom for unsuspecting prey. Focus your efforts in the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), especially around docks, bridges, and sandy or muddy bottoms near structure. Fall is the prime season, as Flounder migrate inshore. Live bait, such as mud minnows or finger mullet, fished on a Carolina rig, is incredibly effective. Slowly drag the bait along the bottom, pausing occasionally to give the Flounder time to strike. Another productive technique is to bounce a jig tipped with Gulp! artificial bait. Several public access points along the ICW allow for wade fishing or launching kayaks. The slightly brackish water near canals emptying into the ICW can be particularly productive. Flounder in this area typically range from 1-3 pounds, but larger 'doormats' are always a possibility. Be patient and persistent, and you'll be rewarded with a delicious meal.
