Seasonal Activity Chart

Flounder
Gulfport provides some excellent flounder fishing, particularly if you focus on the sandy bottom areas around docks, bridges, and channel edges in Boca Ciega Bay. These flatfish are masters of camouflage, so slow and deliberate presentations are key. The fall months, especially October and November, are prime time as flounder migrate inshore to spawn. Live shrimp on a jighead is a classic and effective bait, but artificial lures like grubs and swimbaits bounced along the bottom can also produce. A good place to start your search is around the docks and bridges near the Gulfport Municipal Marina. Flounder in this area can be surprisingly large, with some exceeding 5 pounds. Be sure to use a landing net, as their mouths are delicate and they can easily throw the hook. Also, be aware of the regulations regarding size and bag limits.
