Flounder

While Bridgeport is inland, it's within driving distance of excellent flounder fishing on the Texas Gulf Coast. The key to success is targeting the shallow bays and estuaries near towns like Galveston, Matagorda, or Port Aransas. The best time to target flounder is during the fall flounder run, when they migrate towards the Gulf of Mexico to spawn. This typically occurs from October through December. Gigging at night is a popular and effective method, but you can also catch flounder during the day by drifting or wading with live shrimp or small baitfish near muddy bottoms. Focus on areas with structure, such as docks, piers, or oyster reefs. Remember to check the Texas Parks and Wildlife regulations for flounder size and bag limits, as these can vary by region. A good tip is to use a Carolina rig with a short leader to keep your bait near the bottom where the flounder are feeding.
