Flounder

Port O'Connor is a prime location for flounder fishing, particularly the shallow flats and back lakes. The key to success here is understanding the flounder's ambush feeding habits. They lie in wait, camouflaged on the bottom, ready to strike at passing prey. The best time to target them is during the fall flounder run, when they migrate towards the Gulf. Focus on areas with sandy or muddy bottoms near grass beds or channels. Try drifting with live shrimp or finger mullet on a Carolina rig, or slowly working a soft plastic lure along the bottom. A local tip: wade fishing the flats around Espiritu Santo Bay can be incredibly productive, especially at night with a submersible light to attract baitfish. Be aware of stingrays while wading. Port O'Connor's flounder are known for their size and abundance during the migration.
