Largemouth Bass

Southeast Alabama offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing, and Clio is a great base for exploring the local waterways. The Chattahoochee River, a short drive to the east, is a major draw, offering diverse habitat from backwater sloughs to main river channels. Early spring is fantastic, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all effective during this time. Summer can be tough, so focus on fishing early and late in the day, or at night. Look for structure like submerged timber and weed beds. A local tip: Lake Eufaula, also known as the 'Big Bass Capital of the World', is a bit further afield but well worth the drive if you're serious about catching a trophy. Consider hiring a local guide for your first trip to Eufaula to learn the hotspots and techniques. The bass in this area are known for being aggressive, so don't be afraid to experiment with different lures and retrieves.
