Largemouth Bass

If you're after largemouth bass in southern Alabama, Florala offers a unique opportunity with Lake Jackson. This 500+ acre lake straddling the Alabama-Florida border is known for its clear water and abundant vegetation, creating excellent habitat for largemouth. Spring and fall are peak seasons, with the spawn in the spring and pre-spawn feeding frenzy in the fall bringing bass into the shallows. Target areas around lily pads, grass beds, and submerged timber with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics. The largemouth in Lake Jackson are known to be aggressive, but the clear water can make them wary, so use lighter line and natural-colored lures. Public access is available at the Lake Jackson Recreation Area, with boat ramps and ample parking. Local tip: Pay attention to the wind direction, as bass often congregate on the windward side of the lake, where baitfish are concentrated.
