Largemouth Bass

Sand Rock, Alabama, is a great jumping-off point for some serious largemouth bass fishing. Weiss Lake, known as the "Crappie Capital of the World," also boasts a healthy population of largemouth. The lake's shallow, stump-filled flats and abundant grass beds provide ideal habitat for bass. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, as the fish move shallow to spawn or feed aggressively before winter. Flipping and pitching soft plastics around cover is a proven tactic. Don't overlook topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening. Summer can be challenging, but fishing deep structure with Carolina rigs or crankbaits can produce results. Be aware that Weiss Lake can be weedy, especially during the summer months, so bring weedless lures. The Yellow Creek ramp offers good access to the lake's southern end.
