Largemouth Bass

Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Valley Head presents a unique opportunity for largemouth bass anglers. The area is dotted with small lakes and ponds, many of which hold healthy populations of largemouth. While not known for trophy-sized fish, the numbers can be impressive. Spring is undoubtedly the best time to target these bass as they move shallow to spawn. Focus on weedy areas and submerged timber. As the water warms in the summer, switch to deeper diving crankbaits and Carolina rigs. A key local tip: Many of the smaller lakes are best accessed by kayak or canoe, allowing you to reach secluded areas that hold less-pressured fish. Don't overlook the fall months either. As the water cools, the bass will aggressively feed before winter. You'll find largemouth in Valley Head to be scrappy fighters, making them a fun target on light tackle.
