While Sedona's red rock scenery might steal the show, there are still opportunities to target largemouth bass in the surrounding area. The Verde River and smaller impoundments like Dead Horse Ranch State Park lagoon offer bass fishing within a reasonable drive. Spring and fall are ideal due to the milder weather and increased bass activity. Focus on areas with structure such as submerged trees, rocks, and weed beds. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and plastic worms are all reliable choices. A local tip is to fish the slower-moving sections of the Verde River, particularly near bends and back eddies. The bass in these waters tend to be opportunistic and ambush predators, so target areas where they can easily hide and strike. Don't expect trophy-sized fish, but the scenic beauty makes it a rewarding experience.
