Sonoma County isn't necessarily the first place that comes to mind for largemouth bass fishing in California, but several smaller lakes and reservoirs offer surprisingly good action. Lake Sonoma is a prime example, known for its clear water and healthy bass population. While not known for monster bass, Lake Sonoma holds a good number of 2-4 pound fish, and the occasional larger one. Spring and fall are peak seasons, as the bass move into shallower water to spawn or feed before winter. Try targeting points and coves with structure using crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or Texas-rigged worms. Be aware that water levels can fluctuate significantly, especially during the summer months, so check conditions before you go. Access to Lake Sonoma is available through several boat ramps around the lake, and there are also some areas for bank fishing. Remember to obtain a valid California fishing license.
