Largemouth Bass

If you're heading to Alto, Georgia with largemouth bass on your mind, you're in luck. The area is dotted with smaller lakes and ponds that can offer surprisingly good bass fishing. While not as famous as some of Georgia's larger reservoirs, these smaller bodies of water often hold less pressured fish. The best time to target largemouth around Alto is during the spring and fall. During the spring, focus on shallow, weedy areas as the bass move in to spawn. Spinnerbaits and soft plastics are your best bet then. In the fall, as the water cools, look for bass to be chasing baitfish in slightly deeper water. Crankbaits and topwater lures can be very effective. A local tip: many of these ponds are on private property, so always seek permission before fishing. Also, be aware that water levels can fluctuate, impacting access and fish concentration.
