Largemouth Bass

Decatur, Georgia, provides surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing within easy reach of the city. Although you won't find sprawling reservoirs, the numerous smaller lakes and ponds, along with stretches of the South River, offer productive fishing. Spring and fall are peak seasons, with the bass actively feeding in preparation for or recovery from spawning. Look for largemouth around docks, fallen trees, and weed beds in these smaller bodies of water. A local trick is to use weedless lures, like Texas-rigged worms or frogs, to navigate the dense vegetation. Access to some of these spots may require a bit of exploration and potentially a kayak or small boat. Don't overlook the smaller, less-pressured ponds – they can hold some surprisingly large fish. The largemouth in these urban waters tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different lure presentations.
