Largemouth Bass

Lithonia, Georgia, while not necessarily known as a bass fishing mecca, offers some surprisingly good largemouth opportunities for the urban angler. Local ponds and smaller lakes, often overlooked, can hold some decent-sized fish. The spring spawn is a prime time to target largemouth as they move into the shallows to bed. Look for areas with vegetation, such as lily pads or reeds. Summer can also be productive, especially during early morning and late evening hours when the fish are more active. A Texas-rigged worm or a topwater frog can be deadly in these conditions. A local tip: many of the smaller ponds are best fished from the bank, so pack light and be prepared to walk. Be sure to check local regulations regarding licenses and creel limits, as some of these smaller bodies of water may have specific rules.
