Largemouth Bass

Stockbridge, Georgia, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing within easy reach of Atlanta. While you won't find sprawling lakes, several smaller reservoirs and ponds in the area hold decent populations of bass. These smaller waters often mean more concentrated fish and less pressure than larger, more well-known lakes. Check out public access points on reservoirs like those within the Panola Mountain State Park area, or explore the smaller community lakes if you have permission. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, as bass move shallow to spawn in the spring and then feed heavily again in the fall before winter. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits work well along weed lines and points. Local tip: many of these smaller lakes can be effectively fished from the bank, so wading or using a kayak can get you to the best spots. Don't overlook topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening, especially during the warmer months. The bass in these smaller waters tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of presentations can be effective.
